Bio

Allison Wolf lives and works in the Boston area where she is the Assistant Director of Fine and Performing Arts for Framingham Public Schools. She makes mixed media paintings and embroidery with acrylic, enamel, oil pastel, ink graphite, fabric, thread, and glitter.

After graduating from Skidmore College in 2008 with a major in Studio Art and concentrations in Fiber Arts and Painting, Allison moved to New York City and taught art at an after school program where she fell in love with education. She graduated from the School of Visual Arts with a Masters in Teaching in 2012 and taught at a K-8 charter school in the Bronx for 10 years. Throughout her time at Classical Charter Schools, Allison worked as the art teacher at South Bronx Classical I, the network Art Team Leader, and then transitioned to the role of Specials Instructional Coach, where she supervised and developed all the art, music, physical education teachers and deans across the network.

After 18 vibrant years in New York, Allison relocated back to the Boston area where she grew up (although a part of her heart will always remain in New York.) Allison’s art is often inspired by her experiences working with both teachers and students, both the playfulness of exploration and the depth and complexity of everyday life.

Statement

I make mixed media paintings that explore the intricacies and complexities of nature, my surroundings, interpersonal experiences, self-exploration, and everyday life. In my abstract works, I like to challenge the construct of beauty by layering unpredictable and contrasting colors and patterns while also playing with the tactility and diversity of the materials themselves. I mimic this idea in my portraits as well, showing a snapshot of one vibrant moment in time. Each painting is its own little world, each one its own equation to solve and telling a different story.
